Last night Steph, Zach and I spent several hours conversing and goofing off. I had a horrible migraine prior to dinner and while waiting for it to subside took some Excedrin migraine, the first batch ending up in the sink thanks to Zach and his clownish demeanor. After our meal we decided to draw get well cards to slide under Amy’s door who went to the hospital and was diagnosed with malaria. My horrendous attempt at a teddy bear and a bumblebee swirling around a lush green landscape with flowers had everyone in tears with laughter. We made a decent dent in Stephanie’s candy supply from home and after Zach managed to get lemon starburst stuck in her hair we kicked him out of the room. In his haste he left his shoes and before his return we thought fair revenge was chewing the rest of the starburst and putting them inside the shoes.
Old Segou was somewhat disappointing for such an excursion. The fiery heat of the day had sweat cascading from my tanned flesh and even in the chief’s house the darkened interior was barely comfortable. The views from the roof of the mosque were beautiful and it was interesting to view the burial of Biton Coulibaly, the founder of the royal Bambara in Segou.
The cruise back to Segou was uneventful, though the breeze was nonexistent. We docked along the pier where women were laying out their laundry on the incline of the banks to dry. Before returning to the hotel we stopped at a restaurant where I enjoyed Moroccan couscous, the flavors a welcome change from the Byblos menu.
After an hour of relaxation at the hotel we met once again for class. I gave a ten minute presentation on a souvenir purchase, my Akua-ba as the Kanaga mask is already packed, and indulged in some pasta for dinner. I have to finish packing for tomorrow morning when we depart really early for Bamako.

Are you bringing the adorable girl in the picture home with you? She is absolutely beautiful and from what you say, they are all well behaved which means she would be a real joy! As for Zach, Go ZACH GO! Not a nice thing to do with the starbursts in the shoes. We hope Amy will make a quick recovery and we hope your drawing did not upset her! A couple days left before you come home. Heather wants you to go on a huge shopping spree, buying everything imagineable. Just kidding! We hope you finally got some time to lay at the pool and enjoy it some. We love you, Cherylie & Joe!
Hey...so does starburst stick like gum and really impossible to get out of hair. I feel sorry for Stephanie. You'll have to invite Steph and Zach to Chicago to hang out so I can get to know them, especially since I am even funnier than you are. I was glad to get your emails after work and I am especially intrigued about the bogolan descriptions. Wow! I cannot wait to see them and how different they are from the bogolan we are familiar with. B is secretly hoping for a small blanket in bogolan now. Miss you lots and I don't know how I will make it through these last four days! MWAH!
No children in my luggage. Stephanie and Zach have both called me Heather at numerous occasions for some reason and they haven't even met you. And yes, starburst sticks like gum!

Well that's nothing...they keep calling me Megan at work. You'd think after four weeks they would get a clue that you are not here. Plus several people have put your name up on the cashier cards so I tell them "Geeh, Megan is doing a really good job of making sales all the way from Mali." We both have to get ten cards this month, and Erin is the only other one with that goal. Thomas said it is because we have thirty hours so we should be able to do it. Yet you don't even start until halfway through the month and then we have so many days off too. Oh well. MWAH. Three days!
hi! What ya doin'? Guess you probably won't post until tomorrow since you are traveling to Bamako today. Hope I spelled that right. Everyone is counting down the days now. Are you ready to come home or do you wish you had more time there? You must be getting tired of the heat and dust and monsoons of rain, dirty luggage , chicken and frites and mangos and bumpy bus rides!!!!!! Love ya. Mom
Bogolan dyers sound neat! (and it's really fun to say) I am in Idaho where I've been dong lots of hiking/mountain biking and best of all going to the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. Sounds like you and stuff got really wet, but well worth it for all the great adventures. The boat trip sounds wonderful. Hope you enjoy your last days in Mali!

PS: Take a picture of your teddy bear/bumblebee card and post it! :)
We thought for sure we would see one more blog before you left Mali but guess for whatever reason you have decided to wait. Thinking of you now as you must be at the airport and getting ready to board the plane. Chicago was plagued with bad storms the other night. They even evacuated Wrigley Field because of tornado warnings. Heather was pretty scared. She lost power from midnight until 5Pm the next day. Ug. Will think of you now and your long arduous journey until your are home. Love Mom and Dad
